Welcome

This website is intended to disseminate the activities of the FCT Research Project “Education, Citizenship and Cultural Diversity: Theory and practice of Sociomuseology” CEECIND / 04717/2017. The project is linked with the UNESCO Chair “Education, Citizenship and Cultural Diversity”, with the Department of Museology at the Lusófona University of Lisbon- Portugal and is financed by FCT – Individual Scientific Employment Stimulus Competition (2017).
The R&D activities are developed within the framework of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development (CeiED).
This research project assumes Sociomuseology as a School of Thought, still under construction, and its main objective is to contribute to the clarification of its concepts in order to deepen theoretical questions. This research project aims to be implemented in an integrated way with the UNESCO Chair, and is based on a dialogical relationship with museums, museological processes and recognized and active interlocutors in the field of Sociomuseology.
Sociomuseology has its roots in Paulo Freire’s methodology, particularly in its dialogical and inclusive dimensions, and has given important contributions to the widening of the notions of museum and heritage, to the distinction between public and users, to the respect for cultural diversity and gender equality, and to the role and social responsibility of Museums.
Bearing in mind that Sociomuseology is a school of thought still under construction, the main goal of the research will be to contribute to clarifying its concepts aiming to consequently further its theoretical depth.
